Soundtrack: The Weeknd, Wicked Games

Saw this guy last night on ‘Later with Jools Holland’ and haven’t been able to get this song out of my head since! Such a compelling song and sung with so much passion, and what a voice too. Apparently he’s doing a session with Zane Lowe tonight on Radio 1 so am expecting big things from this guy and I’ll certainly be listening out and buying the album, enjoy!

Food: Apple & Almond Dessert Cake

OK OK…yes it does look a little…well done :/ but I’m still getting to grips with my oven! Surprisingly though, it wasn’t dry in the slightest because of the thick layer of apple.

This cake was one of easiest and tastiest I’ve made which is always a selling point – maximum taste, minimum effort – I recommend this to anyone and it certainly went down a treat with the family – a definite crowd pleaser! I might even add in a little cinnamon next time for a festive twist.

This is best served warm with ice cream, cream or crème fraîche  – get the recipe here!

Fashion: Colour Musings…

This week it was my turn to provide an insight into what I’m up and inspired by on my work blog, MPDClick’s Trend Journal. As I’m heading up the colour pages for our forthcoming MPDVision magazine, I have been looking to a range of (highly addictive) resources to represent our colour inspiration for MPDClick’s three forecasted trends for A/W 14/15. I personally love the vivid tonal bleeds and unexpected contrasts represented in trend 1 (top two images), especially for winter. This is my favourite colour palette so far and definitely one that I shall be investing in when the time comes! Click here to read more!

Food: Sunday Shanks

First off all, apologies for the awful photo quality, it was taken on my iPhone last minute! But I’m glad I did take a photo, this was a seriously good Moroccan lamb shank dish from my Jamie Oliver app and made a great alternative to a traditional Sunday lunch. It was a pretty simple chop and chuck in kind of recipe, but as it was a Jamie Oliver recipe, there were a lot of ingredients to chuck and buy but well worth it for a special Sunday dinner!

Here’s the recipe (serves two)

Salvage: Upholstery begins…

Top pics are the before, the bottom pics are the after…

Can you believe its November already? I started an upholstery evening course last month (I like to keep myself busy!) and this is the first mini project I’ve completed and am really pleased with it! Yes, I know its only recovering a stool but hey, its a start! I found this lovely solid oak stool at a local car booty for just £4 and was actually planning on selling it on after recovering it but it really matches my living room with the reds in the fabric and dark wood frame so have decided to keep it! I’ve got a feeling this is going to happen a lot!

I’m also in a middle of a couple of other projects – recovering another chair in the same fabric and a fully re-upholstering a lovely vintage nursing chair for a friend which I shall post about soon, I love a good winter project and this one’s a big’n!
